2012 - 2013

Centennial Beach, Boundary Bay, Delta
The students (of Div. 3, 4, 5 & 6) did an excellent job cleaning up the beach on the 6th of June as part of World Ocean Day (on the 8th), and then had lots of fun playing on the beach, and catching fish and crabs (PS - all the creatures were returned to the ocean at the end of the day! Phew!).

Science of Fun at Playland

10:15am - at Britannia Mine Museum

The view opposite the mine (across the ocean!)

A wee mining truck!  Honest!
It was retired because it was too small for modern day mining!

Heading inside the mine.

Helmets on please!

All Aboard!

Yikes!  It's getting darker!

Dynamite!
(Phew! It's fake!)

The 'blue' on the tunnel wall is copper oxide.

Off the train and inside one of the tunnels.

Learning about different mining tools from our
terrific tour guide Lara.
The students were sad to learn about the "widow maker."
(see our future science 'minds maps' for further information)

Who needs the toilet? (ah!)

Heading out of the mine.

Mineral testing samples (thousands of them!).

The samples go right up to the ceiling!
All ordered by geographical location.

OOOOO - AHHHHH!
